Theorizing Radicalization and Violent Extremism

September 11, 2001 gave terrorism studies a renewed boost, surpassing the 1970s-1980s era in academic frenzy and scholarly output. But the new generation of ‘radicalisation’ scholars often neglected to pay attention to what their predecessors had explored in the previous era of terrorism research. Combining the results from both generations offers a good starting point for addressing today’s diverse and complex terrorism landscape.
